L’ancien dirigeant du Centre d’Expertise, d’Evaluation et de Certification des substances minérales précieuses et semi-précieuses (CEEC) Léonide Mupepele a démenti ce mercredi 09 septembre, l’information faisant état à la découverte d’un gisement de cobalt dans le territoire de Kabeya Kamwanga.

 » Ces travaux recquierent des financements de l’ordre de quelques centaines millions de dollars américains. Dans le cas de Kabeya Kamwanga, je n’ai pas entendu le ministère des mines, débloquer des telles sommes. Encore moins, d’initier des travaux de cette importance », rappelle cet ingénieur et expert des techniques minières, qui explique, qu’il n’existe pas au sein du CEEC des techniciens outillés pour identifier, délimiter et quantifier un gisement des minerais.

Leonide Mupepele précise que « si d’aventure un gisement de l’ordre de plusieurs milliards de tonnes venait à être découvert, l’on verrait débarquer toutes les grosses pointures du secteur minier qui viendraient s’informer, visiter Kabeya Kamwanga, ce qui, vous le constatez, est loin d’être le cas pour le moment ».

A l’en croire, « les réserves mondiales actuelles, se chiffrent autour de susceptibles millions de tonnes. Ces susceptibles millions de tonnes, 70% de cette réserve mondiale, sont détenues par le Congo. C’est-à-dire à peut près 7 millions de tonnes au travers de Lualaba, accessoirement le Haut-Katanga ».

Selon cet ancien dirigeant du CEEC, le cobalt existe dans la province voisine( le Kasaï central) précisément dans deux localités, à Nkonko et à Lotshiatshia où il existe de gisements de Nickel et de Chrome, qui sont liés à des faibles teneurs de cobalt. Ces réserves actuelles, précise-t-il, « se chiffrent autour de 8 milles tonnes de cobalt. Ce qui est loin de milliards dont parle l’agent du CEEC qui est à l’origine de cette nouvelle ».

Rappelons que la semaine qui s’achève, le chef technique du Centre d’Expertise, d’Evaluation et de Certification des substances minérales précieuses et semi-précieuses (CEEC), avait annoncé le début de l’exploitation du cobalt dans le territoire de Kabeya Kamwanga. Une information qui a crée une vive tension et des discussions sur la toile.
